A Little Herb Garden
Do you like fresh herbs from the garden?
Oh, me too 🙂
Mint for your sweet tea, oregano for soups, and rosemary for…
well, just about everything (including decorating).
We have several large wooden half-barrels.
I figured this would be the perfect size for an herb garden.
There is even space to add more plants if I come across
more I can’t live without.
It sits next to our outside porch area, near the backdoor…
easily accessible from the kitchen while cooking.
The little garden markers are from Laurie Anna’s Shoppe in Canton.
She had many styles to choose from.
One day, we would love to add a large vegetable garden
here on our farm…
so, we are taking little steps at a time.
(A precious friend gave me that good advice)

I would love to do this on our front porch!! I think it would be so pretty with all the greenery!! With some colorful signs! Oh yes I'm sold thank you =)
Your herbs look like they'll grow great in that wine barrel. The pictures you posted are so pretty. I'm hoping for some nice weather soon! 🙂

That is the perfect way to start! Wine barrels work great. I have grow strawberries in wine barrels the past two years and it is actually easier to take care of than having them in the ground. Love your little labels too…really cute! xo
What a great idea! I always have trouble keeping veggies alive in the Texas heat. Do you have better luck using the barrels?
We have just bought our herb seeds and will be planting them soon in our little peat pots to get them going. Last year I planted them in individual pots, but decided this year that I wanted a little raised bed for them. I'm rethinking it a little now though because I don't want to have to walk all the way out to my garden to get my herbs when I want them. Am I lazy or what?
We have lots of our other veggie seeds planted in little pots and they are sitting all over my kitchen table at the moment in front of two big windows. We have planted okra, kale, tomatoes, lettuce, squash and zuchinni so far, I think.
I love your big wooden barrels. That's what I need. I also love those markers you used from Laurie Anna's.

Wow I can't believe you are gardening already! Not so here in Michigan. Love your barrel idea! We did the big garden years ago and now if I do anything it will be very small. lol.

Oh, I love growing herbs…I think everyone should! There's such a fun feeling when I'm cooking and just head to the herb garden to pick what I need.

I love your herb garden!
One word of warning about the lemon balm, it will get huge! And it is very hardy. I had to transplant my one little tiny plant after two years because it got so large, and a hard Maine winter didn't even bother it. Just came back bigger 🙂 So you might start thinking of a permanent spot for it.

Oh, lucky you that you've already got some plants going. I love having fresh herbs at the ready too, my favorite is rosemary…I love the way it smells.

I have an old wash pot of my mother's that we placed in the yard early winter… I think it would be great to have herbs in there.
Don't know much about 'em. If they're easy, I might give it a try. I have spearmint near my front door– it is soooo easy. I planted it and haven't done a think with it and it comes back every single year! Very hardy plant.

Hi Becky I wish I could get my hands dirty…but the garden is still under a little snow. I think in about a week, I will be seeing dirt again, and I couldn't be more excited!

I see you’re growing some oregano there! Great choice! Aside from tasting great on pizza and spaghetti (YUM!), oregano is very useful for natural healing. As a decoction, it can be taken to treat mild fever, colds, flu and indigestion. Its leaves and flowering stems have antiseptic, expectorant, and stimulant properties as well.
